Primary Care

Primary Care

Children's Clinics is recognized as a center for excellence in providing specialty pediatric care to children with special health care needs throughout Southern Arizona.

Children's Clinics also offers primary pediatric care for their patients with complex medical needs. The primary care practice combined with the already comprehensive set of specialty clinics helps move Children's Clinics toward becoming a comprehensive medical home for special children, a place where most of the health needs of children with complex health care needs are accessed and managed in one location. Because children with special health care needs often require significantly more time and resources than most children, the primary care practice is limited in how many patients can be enrolled. In time, the number of pediatricians will increase to meet the needs of the growing population of children with special health care needs.

Currently, nearly 400 children in Pima County with special health care needs, along with their siblings, receive their primary care at Children's Clinics.

The pediatricians and clinic staff provide:

  • well-checks and immunizations
  • urgent-care
  • telephone advice
  • assistance with the coordination of their total health needs
  • follow-ups during a child's hospitalization
  • availability at night and on weekends
